Looking for a SHOW
« on: Monday 29 May 17 10:34 BST (UK) »
I have come across a marriage entry for one of my ancestors Emily Chatfield bn. 17/09/1863 in Manchester. She married a man named Show Levein on 10/05/1887 in Birmingham. Two years later on 2/02/1889 she married again in Birmingham, this time to Thomas Washington Holt bn 1860 (possibly in America.)
I can find no reference to what happened to Show Levein after the first marriage. Is it possible that Show is a different name and has been transcribed wrongly (Possibly Josiah) or is it a foreign name? It's possible that he came from Russia or the Ukraine. On both marriage entries Emily is described as a spinster so could the first marriage be one of convenience to allow Show to remain in the country?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone.
Millipede:- Same surname, Chatfield, on both entries. Father's name and occupation identical on both entries.
Janan and Millipede:- Thanks for info re son I hadn't seen that but where did you find mother's name?
If the name entered on birth then I presume the marriage took place after son' birth?
Jim 1: I did see that but assumed, perhaps wrongly, that he was born abroad and died abroad. More research needed I think :-[

You can search the GRO indexes
ttps://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

They now give the mother's maiden name

I've looked every which way for Joseph Show Levein after his 1888 birth but cannot find a death or any other sighting of him as Levein or variations or as Holt. He seems to be as elusive as his father ;D >:(

There is a Joseph Levien, given born 1889"Russia",in Manchester,in the 1891 census with father Solomon(Shmo? maybe) and mother Sarah ref RG12/3241/83/20.

The Russia reference could just be "lazy ditto syndrome"

If they prove relevant, they appear as Levy in 1901,with Joseph given as born Manchester.
