William GRINDROD, born around 1785, died 1862

Wondering if anyone can help with a marriage for William please?

According to the 1851 (HO107, 2290, 555, 36) and 1861 (RG9, 3242, 79, 3) censuses he was born in Whitworth, Lancashire, although the 1841 - when he is in Saddleworth, Yorkshire (HO107, 1279, 10, 12) - says born in county, and he appears to have spent most of his life in the area.

William and his wife Mary (born Saddleworth around 1880 - edited to 1783) had at least 8 children, from 1809 to 1826:
James, baptised at St Anne's, Lydgate on 5 Jan 1810
Mary, born 17 April 1811, baptised at St Anne's on 26 March 1815 with brother
Edmund, born 1815

But then Edna (born 7 Jan 1817), Betty (28 March 1819) and John (25 Mar 1821) were all baptised at the Providence Independent Chapel in Saddleworth on 26 Dec 1821, followed by William (21 Mar 1823, 28 May 1823) and Ellen (7 Jun 1825, 10 Aug 1925).

Mary died in May 1849 and was buried at the parochial chapelry of Saddleworth on 29 May 1849, aged 66 (recorded as the wife of William, of Burnedge). William died in August 1862, and was buried at the parochial chapelry of Saddleworth, on 22 Aug 1862, aged 78 (of Shaw Hall, Saddleworth, where he was living with one of his sons).

While it would be great to go back another generation on both William and Mary, I am keen to at least find Mary's maiden name if possible.

Should I be concerned at the change from CofE to independent and back again?

Despite what appears to me to be an unusual surname, there are several other families in the Saddleworth area in 1841 and I guess they are related.

Not particularly - could well be there wasn't a nonconformist burial ground in their area at that period. Municipal burial grounds didn't really start being developed until the 1850s/1860s

William Grindred to Mary Buckley in 1808 in Saddleworth. Doesn't give the full date unfortunately, just 1808.

but wasn't she 66 when she died in 1849, i.e b c1883?

I;ve looked at a period 1875 - 85 and there's quite a few, all at St Chad's!

Surely if she was 66 at death in 1849, that should mean that she was born about 1782/83, or am I missing something?
