Hugh MCCALLUM
« on: Monday 29 May 17 21:25 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to solve a puzzle regarding the missing years of Hugh Mccallum.

Born 13 January 1911 to Mary Heaney and no father in Hamilton, Lanarkshire.

Hugh found his way to Berkshire and after many brushes with the law and time in prison he married there in 1970 and has since died (as has his wife)

I have been informed by a family member that he was married prior to this but despite a search and a who list of potential wives I have been unable to say for certain who this was or how he came to be in Berkshire. I belive he more around England a lot but have nOthing between 1934 and 1970

Can someone please help me establish a time line between these years?

His birth was registered as Heaney- not McCallum.  Is there a reason why his surname changed?

What is his marital status on the 1970 marriage cert - widower/divorced/bachelor?

Yeah he was born Heaney but changed his name to McCallum. He fell out with his mother and went to live with his uncle Archibald McCallum and then took his surname.

I dont have the 1970 marriage certificate. I've tried to find it online but cant. English records appear very limited in the information they provide :o(

Could he have previously married as Heaney?

There are 3 Hugh Heaney marriages on Scotlands People between 1933 - 1941

Will you post details when it arrives?  I have just been through a number of Hugh McCallum marriages in England and looked for deaths for the spouse pre - 1970 but no luck.  Always possible he was divorced

If nothing else turns up it might be worth tracing the uncle to find clues about Hugh- perhaps uncle's family know something about Hugh or uncle mentioned Hugh in his Will?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
