Help understanding SOE record
« on: Tuesday 30 May 17 08:21 BST (UK) »
A cousin of mine initially served with the WAAF but then transferred to the SOE. I managed to get a copy of her record through the Freedom of Information Act. However, the file only contained her enlisted question and answer form. The only other document was the one attached to this post.

I was hoping that somebody might understand some of the abbreviations? Would it suggest that she worked as a secretary for the SOE?

Curiously on the 1 October 1942 her named appeared in the London Gazette as being promoted to the rank of Sec. Offs. from the rank of Asst. Sec. Off. in the WAAF. So did members of the SOE typically remain in the WAAF?

Many thanks.

P.T.C. = Personnel and Training Command
MO = Medical Officer

"Returned to Unit at her own request" would suggest that she was employed somewhere 'else', but whether that would indicate SOE or not I wouldn't know.

This is what I think the abbreviations mean via researching an SOE relative.

AL- Airforce liaison section.
MO - Military Operations
OSA - Official Secrets Act
PTC - ‘Put through the cards’, When a check was carried out of the MI5 card
index to see if anything was recorded against the person.
"No Trace" refers the MI5 security check.
Young
Saw
