You're welcome Jo

Hopefully the hiking blogger may be able to tell you a little more. Or you might be able to find a hill walkers forum where you could ask about the area.

The sides of the beck in this area appear to be quite steep going by the contour lines. I can only imagine that Robert was farming sheep on the moor.

Cheers,
Venelow

Hi,

I'm pretty sure I've come across Otterills, Hotter Hill etc before and it was possibly in the Kirbymoorside records, though wouldn't stake my life on it.  May be worth a check as they have Dade records so if you can pinpoint the right family it will take you back a generation or two.

Could you please tell me what Dade records are.  Googling Dade just produced Miami-Dade!
thanks Jo

https://familysearch.org/wiki/en/Dade_parish_registers

most commonly found in the North East eg Northumberland, Durham etc
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Thank you - I was aware of some  registers having much more information than others but didn't know about Dade. Jo

One of the possible marriages for Robert Bentley is to Jane Ford of Sleightholmedale - which shows up on this map but wasn't named on another map I looked at. The Kirkdale register was difficult to read on that too and looked like Heigh.hol....dale.  So thanks Stan.

I was just looking for someone in the 1939 register and they are at Otter Hills, Sleightholmedale, Kirbymoorside RD (George S Bartram born 3/2/1900).
