POW in Stalag VII-C Michał Dobija
« on: Wednesday 31 May 17 16:51 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I am trying to research my great grand father who was a POW in Stalag VII-C, POW ID 353 taken into the camp on 10.02.1941 POW Battalion 42. Anyone knows where I can find some documents or pictures from that camp?
Thanks

I take it Michal was Polish? If so then it may be worthwhile enquiring here:

Could you confirm that the camp was Stalag VII C?  The various lists of camps, including a German forum on POW camps and the Wehrmacht list does not appear to include a Stalag VII C.  There was an Oflag VII C (an officers' camp) but the Stalags in Wehrkreis VII were VII A and VII B at Moosburg and Memmingen respectively.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Freising is a good spot whiteout7, described elsewhere as "serving Stalag VIIA" at Moosburg 20km distant.

Wonder if Michał Dobija was an American Polish soldier or a Polish Soldier? Perhaps Imbers suggestion could cover both?

Mooseroots offers this up "Freising Hospital Details
The full name of this camp is Freising Hospital (Serves Stalag 7-A) Moosburg Bavaria 48-11, and it was controlled by Nazi Germany. The National Archives has records for 31 Allied prisoners held here, all of whom were liberated. Compared to Nazi Germany’s other camps with at least 10 prisoners, Freising Hospital held slightly fewer than the average number of 86 prisoners. For context, Japanese camps held an average of 65 prisoners." http://wwii-pow-camps.mooseroots.com/l/72/Freising-Hospital

Appears to be a partial list of American POW

Could this be the building - Knabenseminar military hospital now the Domberg Museum http://www.tracesofevil.com/search/label/Freising
