Percy Castle Kelly
« on: Thursday 01 June 17 13:25 BST (UK) »
Fell 17 Aug 1916, Percy Castle Kelly, 20.  Private. Regiment Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry #21321. 6th Battalion. Death place: No36 CLS France & Flanders.

Also found a record for Percy Kelly, military year 1914-1915.Private received the Star medal. Regiment The King's (Liverpool) #13191. Would this be the same Percy? Did he reenlist but with the Cornwall Light Infantry?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Medal Roll doesn't indicate any other Regt. He was briefly attached to the 10/DCLI with the same number.
The other Percy Kelly has a different entry date.

No,  13191 Percy Kelly of the Kings (Liverpool) Regiment, from Douglas Isle of Man,  died of wounds in France 29 Sep 1917 so a little over a year after the DCLI man who was from Cornwall. (The CLS is mis- transcription, it is CCS Casualty Clearing Station)

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Location at his death was Delville Wood, Somme Offensive.
36 CCS was at Heilly.
A small piece of history was made at Delville Wood as this is the first time tanks were used.
I would say in all probability that your man fell on the 16th. & died of his wounds the following day.
The 6/DCLI were in support of the attack of Gueudecourt (just North of Delville Wood). The Batt. mustered along Bull Rd. (yellow).
The first wave were cut down by m/g fire from the village & were forced back. The 6/DCLI were ordered to advance with the same result & were back on the yellow line by late morning.
The plan was then changed to an assault on the Gird trench & support trench which had now been re-occupied by the Germans prior to a counter-offensive. They achieved this by early evening when they were relieved.
Your man probably fell during this assault or the previous attack on the village in the area coloured pink.
