Hi Trish :)

Seeing the original posting has encouraged me to take a look down this line. I agree the 1841 census could the correct one for William, however having had a look at the census, I think Elizabeth is transcribed wrongly as being 60 when it looks more like she is 40 to me.

regards
Kev.

Hi again,

Further digging has revealed some possibilities.

There's a Thomas Potterton (a widower) of Walcot marrying Elizabeth Blackburn of Potterhanworth (think that's what my scrawled notes say ;D) on 8/6/1818 at Potterhanworth.

There's a baptism for a William Potterton on 7/1/1822 at St Andrew Timberland, son of Thomas and Elizabeth. However there is also a burial for a Wiliam Potterton on 26/1/1825 age 3 at Billinghay, his abode was Walcot.  Wondering if Thomas and Elizabeth had another son in around 1827-1828 and also called him William, although I cannot find a baptism for him (or any of the other children listed on the 1841 census with Elizabeth) as yet.

There's a burial for Thomas Potterton on 15/2/1841 at Timberland (possibly aged 50 from GRO) - if he is the right Thomas could explain the 1841 census.

Although all the above could be totally wrong, I did end up getting more then a little confused :-\

Oops I missed that elizabeth was 40 not 60 in 1841!

Trouble is there is no John Potterton Birth Reg GRO Index 1840+/- 2yrs with Mothers mn Blackburn.
Unless Johns age is wrong on 1841 Census?

Elizabeth remarried to George CLARK 2 Jan 1843. Age 49, Widow, no Fathers details given!

Bap at Timberland, 06 Oct 1840, John POTTERTON, son of Francis and Mary (FreeREG) - likely marriage 1839 - but not BLACKBURN.  Baby John seems to be with parents in 1841.  :-\
