Peter Kratchmer SR Austria-Hungry-Russia
« on: Friday 02 June 17 04:17 BST (UK) »
Peter Kratchmer SR born Nov 8 1871 Austria-Hungry  and died July 15 1934 Unity, Sask, Canada
Married  to Katherine (Katherina) Herbst born Nov 13 1879 Russia died Nov 3 1962 Unity,Sask,Canada.

They had 10 children...
I'm looking for Parents of both Peter and Katherine. It seems to be a dead end every where, is there a way to find out? and where, how? Even siblings would be great.

My grandparents Peter and Isabell Kratchmer are still alive but they don't know much.
Thanks Trista

I don't know anything about Canadian records, so some of these suggestions may not be feasible but would there be any parents named on Peter and Katherine's marriage or death certificates?
Did they have obituaries published in any newspapers which may give clues as to their origins?
Naturalisation certificates? (Though I doubt theses would give parent's names)
Immigration records? Did they travel to Canada seperately with their own familes or together as a married couple?

Hi

If you read the thread in the German Forum you will see that we looked at all Canadian records which are available online. The naturalisation papers of the time in question are unfortunately not online. What makes the research a bit difficult is that the surname is written differently in nearly every document and that Austria had a very huge territory back then. In Europe there are more different variations of writing the surname in question (its written differently in German speaking countries than in the East European countries where the surname originally came from.

I have just found another thread about the same family with links to obituaries and biographies.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=756455.0

Someone mentioned there that his/her greatgrandmother Elisabeth Herbst was a sister to Catherine Herbst. Their parents were Franz (or Frank) Herbst and Johanna Gruenewald and that they lived in Kronental, Crimea. So I think you should search in Kronental, Crimea for the marriage entry of Peter and Catherine and also for the birth/baptism entries of their four first born children. Maybe you can also find the birth/baptism entries for Peter, Catherine and Elisabeth and the mariage entries of their parents which maybe say where they came from.

I have looked at death records but it doesn't say there parents. From my own family I'm told Peter and Katherine came over with there own children. but then I have found a thread that Peter came over with his parents and siblings, but there is no record here in Canada. So I think his parents may have died along the way to Canada. I have looked up there names on ship records and have found nothing. Again maybe they have changed there name or there name was changed on the ship records. There are different spellings for Kratchmer. Kretchmer Kretschmer Kratschmer...
