1851 Census Lookup Worksop Please (and 1841 if poss)
« on: Saturday 30 July 05 17:23 BST (UK) »
Hi

Does anyone have access to 1851 census for Worksop?

I'm looking for George ALLEN (b1815, Worksop)  and his wife Sarah (b1824, Norton?).  They could have children, I'm not sure.  In 1861 they were living in Newgate Street, Worksop.

I don't know when they married so I'm not sure if they were married by 1841 or not but if not, George could be with his parents John ALLEN and Mary.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks
Sam x

Thanks for that Heather, that definately looks like him as the brothers names fit with what I have .  Also they are definately the children of Sarah and George so I will look further into the marriage that you have found.

Thanks

Hello Sam,

I had a look through the 1841 census for you.  The 1841 census has limited information (for example no family relationships), so some guesswork is inevitable.  However ...

I suggest this might be Sarah Harvey, living with widowed mother:-

HO107  Folio 10  Piece 849  Norton
Ann       HARVEY  50   Y
Sarah    HARVEY  15   Y
Ann       HARVEY  14   Y
Thomas HARVEY    6   Y

I suggest this might be George Allen's brother and widowed mother:

HO107  Folio 2-25  Piece 852 Bridge St, Worksop
Mary ALLEN  60                Y
John ALLEN  30 Labourer Y

I can find no perfect fit for George Allen. The closest I can see is a farm labourer nearby, but the age is not right.  Nevertheless, here it is :-

HO107  Folio 14-47  Piece 852  Scofton Farm, Worksop
Godfrey BROUGHTON 40  Farmer                       N
Sarah BROUGHTON    30                                    Y
Sarah BROUGHTON      3                                    Y
Amie BROUGHTON     1½                                    Y
John BROUGHTON     5m                                    Y
Henry BINGHAM         15  Agricultural Labourer Y
Thomas BOWLS         15  Agricultural Labourer Y
George ALLEN           15  Agricultural Labourer Y
Thomas MORGAN       15  Agricultural Labourer Y
William STEELE          20  Agricultural Labourer Y
Henry WHITE             15  Agricultural Labourer Y
Jane HALL                  20  Female Servant         Y
Mary LAMB                 15  Female Servant         Y

kind regards,  Howard
