Wilson Place Spitalfields, Whitechapel
« on: Saturday 03 June 17 11:35 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I'm trying to track down the location Wilson place, Spitalfields.  I believe it is very close to Flower and Dean St but have not found a map with the actual location.  I'm not sure if there is one considering it is listed as a 'place' - perhaps it is too small?  Can anyone help?

Regards Mel

1873 OS map shows it as Wilson's Place. It runs south from Flower & Dean St, just to the west of George St. It is a cul-de-sac stopping at the rear of the property on Upper Keate St.

Thankyou very much.  What website are you referring to, to access that particular searchable map?

Thank you, Bookbox.  Interesting that the 1868 shows it running through into Upper Keate St, whereas the 1873 shows it as a cup-de-sac.

Mel, I've sent you a PM.

Added ...... the 1873 map is the Alan Godfrey Edition paper map.

 ;D

... and neither is it on Horwood's 1812 map.

(Shame I can't post an image of the 1873)

Mel, what date are you researching ?

The address is from 1861 census.  I'm assuming the family stayed around the same area for a few years as the address for their first child who was born in 1853, is listed as Georges Yard, Whitechapel.

The geographical street changes and name changes do make it difficult to track down some locations.

Once again thankyou.
