John Hale possibly abt 1711
« on: Saturday 03 June 17 16:02 BST (UK) »
John Hale was a Carpenter in 1728 he moved to St Albans Where he became a freeman and there are records of him being master to 6 apprentices
Proof of the move is a Settlement Document dated 21 Dec 1728 addressed to the Churchwardens and overseers to the poor of Abbey Parish of the town of St Albans in the County of Hertfordshire
"We the Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the Parish of Luton in the in the County of Bedfordshire by and with the consent of the Chief Inhabitants of same certify unto you that John Hale and Martha  his wife are Legally Settled in Parish of Luton"
John obviously either was born in Luton or was an apprentice with a master in Luton. I am trying to establish when he married Martha, where and what is her maiden name. Any information about either of them gratefully received

Thanks for the family search reference as you say a long shot as marriage according to Licence was to take place in Salop.
The marriage at St Katherine I think is too early but will check. But again my thanks.
Their first child was born 1730 and last 1743 Martha died in 1792.

The will is on Ancestry.

John Hale the elder, carpenter, but there's no mention of a John Hale the younger. Mentions wife Martha, son William and daughter Hannah Hale

Sorry for such a late reply but I did not follow up after my last post. I have the will and unfortunately no clues the Hannah mentioned is my wife's 4G grandmother. Many thanks for your replies Cuffie81 and bedfordshire boy
