The death registration from Scotlands People should give you his parents' names if they were known to the informant.

If you go to Moray Council's free Libindx website and do a people search for him, it may also throw something up.

Forres Gazette?????

I had a look at the Libindx site too and there is also information about his wife and her parents and her children. Says she was born in Keith.

As he seems to have been an army pensioner (Royal Artillery), it is worth checking to see if there are army papers for him. Perhaps he was a Chelsea out-pensioner and his discharge papers have survived.

The 1861 & 1871 Census transcriptions are also available on FreeCEN.
Interesting to note Alexander is noted as deaf on the 1871 Census , was that a result of his Army service ?

This birth ?

The death cert. will hopefully give further information on parents.
