Samuel JONES - Caldwell County, Kentucky 1850
« on: Sunday 04 June 17 20:56 BST (UK) »
Looking for the death of Samuel JONES who died in 1850 in Caldwell County, Kentucky.  Born 1787-1794 North Carolina, unknown parents.  Married Terisse (various spellings) CAMPBELL in 1822 in Caldwell Co. KY.

Have tried the Mortality Schedules for 1850 without success.  Samuel appears with wife and family in the 1850 census but nothing after that.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Glenys:

How do you know he died in 1850, please?

Just gathering facts...
Samuel L. Jones married Terecy Campbell 14 October 1822, Caldwell, Kentucky and
Saul L. Jones married Terecy Campbell 14 October 1822, Caldwell, Kentucky.  Officiant: Abner Wilson Smith, Justice of the Peace

1860 - Some of the children were living together in Princeton, Caldwell County.  Have you checked Princeton for his death?

According to one family tree, prior to Samuel's marriage to Terisse, he married Rachel Smith in 1813.  Have you found Rachel's burial (1822)?  Perhaps Samuel is buried with her?

This person also states that Samuel's parents were John Jones (c1770-1811 - death Farmersville, Caldwell Co.) and Martha (1770-).  Apparently, a will for John was filed in Caldwell Co.

They state that Samuel's name was Samuel S Jones, born c1787, Orange, North Carolina.

Hi Lisa:  So nice to hear from you again.

We now have (thanks to Caldwell County) the estate papers of Samuel S. Jones in November 1850.  I have also been contacted by a direct descendant of Samuel and his first wife Rachel CANNON.  The second marriage entry you refer to for Samuel and Tericy actually reads Sam'l not Saul - easily mistaken when transcribing when you consider the handwriting!

Both Samuel and Tericy died in Princeton, Caldwell County (I have also received her estate papers). She in 1870.  They are likely buried in Princeton but so far the burial sites for both of them are unknown.  We are fairly certain her parents were M. (Michael?) and Mrs. M. Campbell.

I am familiar with the family record that states John and Martha as Samuel's parents, as well as stating that he married Rachel SMITH rather than CANNON.  Rachel had been married previously to a Kinson CANNON who died in 1810 in Livingston Co. Kentucky.  She was Rachel SMITH and they married in 1803.

Your help has been invaluable and I am very grateful.  We are continuing to work on Samuel and Tericy as far as locating graves and of course extending both of their lines back to parents we can prove.  Unfortunately it appears Samuel's death was too early for extant local newspapers and Tericy's may have been as well (the earliest newspaper records we can find begin in 1871).  We will check the children to see if anything appears for them that may mention their parents.

Again, thank you for your interest and your help.
