George Robertson & Elizabeth Douglas, Lanarkshire
« on: Monday 05 June 17 04:25 BST (UK) »
I am looking for descendants of George Robertson & Elizabeth Douglas who married at Blythswood, Glasgow 21/3/1902. George, born Overtown 10/10/1880, is the son of James and Isabella Robertson (nee Love).  Elizabeth, born Dalserf 27/6/1884, is the daughter of Abraham and Martha Douglas (nee Neilson/Nelson).  George and Elizabeth's son, James born 27/7/1903, died 28/8/1903 aged 5 weeks and is buried in the Cambusnethan Cemetery.
Is there anyone out there . . . . . .
Robertson, Douglas, Love, Duncan, Laird, Mitchell, Wilson, Neilson, Penman, Willies

Hi Barbara,

I can't help with any of the descendants, sorry. I do have some of the cemetery and churchyard records for Cambusnethan but, unfortunately, the records for 1902 - 1905 are missing, so I can't check to find out if the child who died is buried in a private plot or in common ground. Perhaps you may know?
I have checked the records and there doesn't seem to be any more interments for children of George & Elizabeth between 1905 and 1917, when my records finish.

What I did find, and it may fill in some gaps in your tree, are six interments for siblings of George, children of James Robertson & Isabella Love. They are all buried in common (public) ground, so there is no memorial and after all this time the exact location has been lost.
All dates are of interment and all are listed as children of James & Isabella.

ROBERT ROBERTSON, Overtown, aged 8 months. 30th October 1861.

STILLBORN MALE ROBERTSON, Wishaw. 12th December 1864.

STILLBORN FEMALE ROBERTSON, Overtown. 22nd August 1870.

STILLBORN FEMALE ROBERTSON, Overtown. 7th March 1874.

STILLBORN MALE ROBERTSON, Overtown. 6th May 1879.

JOHN ROBERTSON, Overtown, aged 5 years. 10th August 1880.

Hope this helps a little,

Were Robert Robertson & Margaret Dunn the parents of James?

Hello again Lodger, it's been a while. You are a busy little person.
Thanks for the info on the deceased children of James & Isabella.  I knew about Robert, but not the others.  Very sad but not unusual back then unfortunately.
I have info on James & Isabella's burials and photos of where they are buried at Cambusnethan, thanks to a RAOK from a gentleman in Fife back in 2009.  Also in the same lair is George's son, James, and Catherine Hutchison a child who appears to have been under the guardianship of my Grandfather James.
And yes, James (my G.Grandfather) is a son of Robert Robertson and Margaret Dunn - one of their 11 children (that I know of).  I was actually able to visit the grave of my Grandfather, also James Robertson, in May in NZ for the first time.  My father was also James so it threw me when tracing the family and Robert popped up.
Cheers, Barbara

Morning Lodger.
Yes, I knew about James and Margaret thankyou.
The only one I can't find is Margaret Robertson (nee Dunn).  I know Robert died 18/5/1880 at Cambusnethan but have not been able to find anything on Margaret's death.  Know they went to the USA and lived/worked at Lonaconing, Maryland and where their son, Robert Gray Robertson, married and had children leaving several descendants there.
Cheers, Barbara

Evening Barbara  :)

Robert Robertson was a widower according to the burial records, he is in common ground, buried on 20th May 1880 aged 73 years. Perhaps she died in the States?

The only other Robertson I could find was

ANDREW ROBERTSON, coal miner, Sunnyside Row, aged 51 years, married.
Parents - James Robertson & Mary Gray.
Interred in the old churchyard on 22nd November 1864.

There is a gravestone in the old churchyard with the inscription "Erected by Andrew Robertson and Janet Muir to the memory of their son James Robertson who died 5th November 1859 aged 24 years".

Here is a picture of it.
The only other recorded interment in that plot is ANDREW MILLER aged 57 years, interred 16th December 1882. The owners of the plot were Andrew Robertson & Janet Muir.

Hello again Lodger : Just wondering in one of your posts you listed 4 stillborn babies of James & Isabella Robertson, where did you get copies of these?  I cannot find anything on Ancestry or Scotlands People.  Would like copies for my file if I can get them.
Cheers, Barbara
