Boughton Monchelsea Baptisms c1785 - Look Up Request
« on: Monday 05 June 17 10:27 BST (UK) »
I have been provided with a tip that an ancestor I am seeking may be baptised in Boughton Monchelsea. His name is Samuel VENESS (later) but is likely to be born as Samuel VENICE (or phonetic variant). Based on his given age on his DC he would have been born c1785. The information provided to me is that a Thomas Venice married Mary Arlott on 2 Dec 1764 and that a Samuel Venice married a Mary Owlett on 23 Sept 1764 in BM, but unfortunately I no further information on possible children or extended family.

If anyone could kindly look up to see if there is any candidates, it would be appreciated. This information comes after extensive investigations suggest, that while the VENESS family are predominantly in nearby SSX, his baptism did not take place in that county.

Further information sought, which may be supported by records:
1. If any VENICE is the village was a dyer or silk dyer; may be recorded on church records. Samuel had this trade in Worcester, where he settled (not of the county in 1841 and sadly died prior to 1851), so it is possible it was his father's trade.
2. Any James VENICE? Samuel named his first son James, then his second after himself, possibly indicating James was his father or a close relative.

Thanks.

warncoort - Thank you for the link, however that just took me to an existing public domain source (FamilySearch.org). FamilySearch is always one of the first points of reference, but there are no baptisms in the C18th period for the two gentlemen (or any other family of similar same - generally as VENESS, VENICE, VENUS, VENES, etc)) who declare BM as their place of abode.
This clue may not produce anything as FamilySearch & FReeREG, etc., appears to have many holes in SSX & KNT records. I have discussed other trees of similar-named families in the two counties, and it is clear that BMD information exists but has yet to be transcribed or not yet found in the public domain.
Best wishes,
Mark

Just as a point for future reference on archersoftware, when you go to county one column is headed "listed by Wallis",if NO they wont be found on familysearch.
Using Parloc shows 25 parishes within 5 miles of BM.

Thanks for the clarification of "NO". There were no additional results.
The Parloc software is out of date and no longer suitable for modern OS. I haven't found an updated version suitable for Windows 10.

Many thanks for the offer. I will check the list if you PM.
However, as no result for BM have appeared, I will continue a wider search for any Samuel V*N*S anywhere. It was provided as a lead, but does not appear to be supported by any records. I am not sure of his origins prior to WOR; only the SE England is the focus for the name. Bit of brickwall.
M.

Thanks bearcat - I suspect the hint was trying to be helpful and the results in BM seem to support investigations need to return to a much wider area.
