What happened to Ann Annetts?
« on: Monday 05 June 17 14:41 BST (UK) »
Ann Annetts was baptised in Chilton, Berks on 11 Oct 1829, d/o John Annetts and his wife Sarah (nee Wallis). On the 1841 census she is in Chilton with her parents and younger siblings. Her age  is given as 11, which matches a birth between 1 June 1829 and her baptism date.
I cannot find any trace of her after that.
Can anyone find her death or marriage or on a later census, please?

yes, early spelling was a bit flexible. It had settled down to Annetts by the time my great grandparents married.

I have found a Mary A Annettes b Chilton Berks age 22 unmarried as a servant in the household of Ann Lanham in Abingdon. Could she be my Ann with a slight name change?
Piece: 1688, Folio: 322, Page: 21.

I can't find a corresponding Mary A Annetts in Chilton around 1829. The only baptisms I have around 1830 +/- 5 are Ann herself, Alfred (Ann's brother and my great grand uncle), Jethro and Gratura / Ketura (children of my 2 x great grandfather's brother Joseph) and William (son of my 2xgreat grandfather and 1st wife - Ann and Alfred's half brother) so they're all accounted for.
Can anyone find who Mary A Annetts is, in order to eliminate from the puzzle, please.

I've also checked Chilton Foliat as it seems to be a peripatetic village that's sometimes in Berkshire, but nothing there that I can see.

Hi LizzieL,

I have just noticed this thread but, the date you have for Ann Annetts bapt. in 1829 in the Chilton transcripts refers to a Ann Hannalls d/o John & Sarah, Labourer.
Have you info that corrects the entry I have found in the Chilton All Saints registers?

The Berks FHS baptism CD has her name as;
Ann Hannates d/o John & Sarah as above.

I can see where "Annetts" comes from.

I have her on the 1841 census as Annats with John and Sarah and younger full siblings Alfred Henry and Lucy and William her half brother from John's first marriage. In 1851 the family is Ennetts.
There are various spellings of the surname but "Annetts" seems to be most used and was the version used on my grandfather's birth certificate (mother's maiden name). It has been transcribed as Anutts on my great grandmother's (Elizabeth Annetts - John and Sarah's youngest child) marriage record (GRO), but the writing on the cert I received from GRO is rather small and difficult to read and I read it as Anetts. I haven't seen the original parish record to see how she spelt it when she signed. She could write her name but my great grandfather made his mark. They married  on 18 Jan 1870 at Chilton.

There was a Fred Annetts, born c1863 in Chilton, married into my family tree.  Probably one of yours, Lizzie?   :)
