Hope someone may be able to help.  I'm looking for army records of above chap.

He was born in APRIL 1880 • Stockton, Durham, England

We know he joined the army here (not sure of dates, no records found)

I also found details of medals he was award in New Zealand.

Hi  ... can you please answer above regarding medals awarded ?

Thanks lucy2

Your right that's where I got the information from.

I'm desperate to find out where he was born, I know it was England.

I'm hoping it is Durham.

Looking at this again I've confused his details there's no medals, I've confused them with service details, which you've explained are Reserves.

I'm hoping somewhere on your records you have his place of birth so I can be sure it's the right person.

Hello again

A military record might have provided a birthplace, but there isn't one.

The birth registrations for his New Zealand-born children should record the place of birth of their father (but unless someone researching the family already has copies of these or baptism certs, then you would have to pay $$ to obtain that information).

On the link I gave you earlier to the headstone / plaque for Frederic, this includes his actual birthdate of "18 - 3 - 1880".

Have just found on ancestry.com website, a family tree (Stewart Whiteley Tree) which includes Frederic Ernest WHITELEY, born Stockton, Durham, 1880, the son of Eli WHITELEY and Dorothy Jane nee CLAYTON.

No record of a marriage for that Frederic Ernest is given in the tree, nor of his travel to ,or death in, New Zealand -  (the Researcher seems to be following another child of Eli and Dorothy).

Working outside the brief. A snippet about Frederic Ernest, which you may not have?

Farewell (from Geraldine) report dated 1928-

Mentions his wife, "their two daughters and the baby"......

Hi miniehaha

Thank you for that news article  Louisa died 1925 so I presume this is Mary Jane Raitt.

And that leads to more confusion.

This is the little girl Jenny that's with the family on arrival to New Zealand.

Could she have changed her name to Raitt, or adopted by them.  It's such an unusual name. It appears he married Louisa's step sister maybe!!!

The birth date on head stone appears to suggest it's him.

Could you tell me if he returned to England at all.

Are you in contact with any family members?

I have just come across this very recent death (a relative?):

WHITELEY, Fredric Clayton. Also known as Fred.

Died 02 June 2017.

Notices appeared in:

Timaru Herald
03 Jun 2017

Wanganui Chronicle
03 Jun 2017

You will note the name of Clayton appears as a second Christian name for the son of Frederic. [The baby was born in 1905 & died that year.]

See reply #2.
