NSW: Jeremiah CROSS, born 1838 Turnworth, Dorset
« on: Monday 05 June 17 20:15 BST (UK) »
Helllo,

Jeremiah CROSS, aged 18, and his widower father, James, travelled to Australia (NSW) aboard the Stebonheath in 1858.   The intention was to meet up with his sister, Jemima (Gemma/Jemma), who had earlier migrated on the Emigrant in 1849 as Mrs James FRAMPTON.   Her husband apparently died and she married her second husband, Peter GREY, in 1854 and was living in Port Stephens.

I wonder if anyone can help in profiling Jeremiah CROSS after 1858 please.

For the moment, thank you,

BAC3

There appears to only be one Jeremiah CROSS death in NSW with father James, so could be your man. Died in 1915 (NSW death reg 8589/1915), father James, mother Ellen, at Hillgrove. Hillgrove in on the Northern Tablelands, near Armidale.

Can't see any marriages with that spelling, and unfortunately Trove seems to be down at the moment, so can't look up any newspaper reports. Will try again later this morning.

Should have looked a bit harder this morning, there is a Jeremiah CROSS aged 23 died at Armidale in 1864, parents not listed on the death index so probably not known (2598/1864). I think this sounds more likely as the one who died in 1915 was aged 54. Memorial notice here:

Do you think this might be Jemima's son (died 1947)? Mentions Jemima GREY wife of Peter, who lived to over 100 years old.

(Stroud is not far from Port Stephens, by Australian standards!)
