Rosball,

I have been researching my family tree for approx 2 years and it was only in last couple of months I found an Australian connection to the Anderson side of the family. The Anderson's hardly left the county of Fife between 1800's - 2000's and now we've found a whole new avenue to explore in Australia!

Must have been a massive leap of faith to leave their homeland and coal mining communities in Scotland and move to Australia in 1857 for a better life. For Andrew Paton Anderson to born on the journey only adds to the story!

Yes it is an interesting story - especially about the birth on board (the poor Mum).

It would have taken a lot of courage to leave their homeland and family to travel so far away.  I'm glad they were successful and lived to a good age.

adding : My ancestor John Scott Henderson (profile pic) left Scotland in 1856 with his family looking for a better life and also prospered and had many descendants (including me :) ).

Life was very difficult in Scotland at that time.  http://www.johngraycentre.org/about/archives/brief-history-emigration-immigration-scotland-research-guide-2/
