Flynn / Carty
« on: Tuesday 06 June 17 08:58 BST (UK) »
Morning all, really hoping someone can help me break through the wall I have hit. My grt grt grt grandparents Patrick Flynn married Anne Carty in Wexford August 1835, I can trace them forward but not get any further back. They had 4 children, 3 in Wexford then an additional 1 in Liverpool where they ran a tavern, any help much appreciated, and obviously happy to share xxxx

...My grt grt grt grandparents Patrick Flynn married Anne Carty in Wexford August 1835,.....

I presume you mean they married in Wexford town?

I don't see any candidates at all for a baptism of Patrick Flynn in Wexford town, but there is one in Taghmon, which is reasonable:
Patrick Flynn, bapt. Taghmon 15/3/1805, son of James Flynn and Elizabeth Whelan. He appears to be their eldest child, with 6 siblings baptized though 1826. [Note, I translated the names - original register is in Latin]. The parents were married in Wexford town on 13/2/1804, which I think is significant.

As for Anne Carty, I see three reasonable candidates
1) Baptized Wexford 14/2/1810, daughter of Thomas Carty and Elizabeth Hughes. They married in Wexford on February 5th, 1797. They had at least three other children before Anne.
2) Baptized Taghmon 20/1/1806, daughter of Thomas Carty and Margaret Carty. They married in Taghmon on 22/3/1803. They had at least 7 other children. [Again, names translated from Latin].
3) Baptized Oylegate, 9/3/1806, daughter of Denis Carty and Mrs Carty (so recorded).

Hope this helps!

I'm afraid I'm no help to you but if your Ann turned out to be the one from Oylegate then I would be very interested as I have a Carty family that I can trace back to a William and Mary (nee Quinlan) Carty who married in 1833 in Oylegate - actual address was Coolamain
Main Interests:
Dublin - McEvoy, Roe, Snowdon/Snowden, McCarthy, Scarry, Reardon
Newcastle - Snowdon
Portsea - Elliott
Glouchester - Elliott
London - Feary
Grendon, Northants - Feary
Offaly - Larkin, Coghlan, Seery, McEvoy, Hogan
Longford - Clinton, Kenny, Mulholland
Cork - Scarry, Reardon/Riordan/O'Reardon/O'Riordan, Shea, Walsh, Harding, Geany
Wexford - Carty/McCarthy, Quinlan

I am also tracing Carty or Carthy in north Wexford. Townlands include Ballyteigue near Ballycanew; Bolinready, Ballycanew; Monroe near Kilmuckridge. Some of their records are in Camolin Parish Catholic Registers. Some records on family search and birthplace recorded as Killenagh and Wells. Grand uncle Leonard Carty (eldest of a family of 10) about 1919 was shipping cattle on the hoof via Dublin Cattle Market to Liverpool, and I have many original records of these transactions. My ggf Thomas Carty and ggm Sarah Burk married 1869 in Camolin lived in Coolishal House, Gorey had 10 children: Leonard, Francis (Frank), Felix, Mary, Sarah, Catherine (Kate), Elizabeth (Lizzie), Annie who married Kenny, Tom and John. This generation married to Doyle, Kavanagh, Nolan, Kenny, Breen, Gahan, Redmond. Previous generations may have intermarried with Cardiff, Hamilton, Hollingsworth, and Higginbottam.
