Have you tried looking on 1939 with just Susannah/Susan (would tick spelling variation) with her DOB, would possibly bring up under married name.

Alternatively try looking at marriages to see if any tie with 1939.

Hhmm, done as Cas suggested and come up with a possible on the 1939 Register.

Would like others to look without being told off for revealing too much.  Okay, put in Susan and the date of birth that has been given in an earlier post.  Put in zero for the -/+ for year of birth.

Pick the one that is living in the UK capital.  Have a look and see what you think.

There is a death registered for this lady in 1978 in Southend on Sea with the same date of birth.  Same person as the 1939 one?

I am having considerable difficulty in finding a likely marriage.

There is probate of the Susan who died in Southend, just in case it might help in any further research.

I do not have paid access to 1939, so do not have full information.

But as no-one else has replied, I looked up Henry Mills on the ER in Shoreditch, and in 1936 there is a Henry Mills at 19 Branch Place.  There are 6 people living there, one of the others is a Susan Griffiths.

They both appear (she still as Susan Griffiths) at 18 Branch Place by 1939, with 2 married couples.

Thank you for looking, I keep coming back to this record but can never find the marriage record. However, I have spent the afternoon searching and I have found a marriage in 1943 - though the name is slightly different - Harry. I wonder whether this is them. I have ordered the death cert and will order this marriage cert tomorrow. I really hope this is her, it will mean a great deal to my family.

I am even more confused today, I thought I would contact Southend council to find out some more info about the burial for Susan 1978. Same birthday but buried with a Walter John Mills. I searched for a marriage record and could only find a Susan mills to Walter mills in 1955?

Did they state that Walter John was her husband?

It means that Susan has been living as Mills/Griffths before she marries him. Or she married Henry/Harry, then Walter?   Oh.
