1939 Pool promoters and decontamination squad.

In the 1939 register Birkenhead  I have two ladies .
One is Pool promoters typist. St John`s Ambulance.
Two is Pool promoters clerk.

Would they be  working for one of the Football Pools companies.
I`m guessing the first one was also in St Johns.   

Another family member is heavy worker. Decontamination squad.
and another A.R.P Mersey Docks and Harbour.

Does anyone have more info, I`m not finding much.

With the outbreak of hostilities, football matches were temporarily suspended.

The Liverpool Daily Post, 29 Sep 1939, reported that with the banning of the pools at least 16,000 women and girls would be out of work in Liverpool.

Pools business was resumed on or after Oct 7th 1939 following a London conference with the Pools Promoters' Association - so, a very temporary ban indeed!

Decontamination squads cleared the roads etc. after bombing raids.

ARP = Air Raid Precaution .....Warden Hodges in 'Dad's Army'.
