Clarification of transcription
« on: Thursday 08 June 17 15:07 BST (UK) »
Hi

I would be grateful if someone with access to Ancestry could look up the record for Gloucester Marriages & Banns 1754 - 1938 - 24th Nov 1806 Bisley - Ann Kent m. John Jeffris and go into the actual hand written record available.  My reading of this is Ann HUNT not Kent it does seem quite clear to me what do you think  ???

It looks like HUNT to me too, the first letter is the same as the H in Henry Green, the lower case U is nothing like the E in the next word were.

I agree and it's even clearer in the bit where they make their mark - Hunt.

Hi

Many thanks for your responses and assistance.  I felt like I had to check with someone else as it seems quite obvious to me too  ::) I don't understand how the mistake can have been made.  I will advise Ancestry of our opinions.

Thankyou

I have e-mailed Ancestry on a number of occasions when the transcriptions have been obviously wrong. One time I had a lovely e-mail back thanking me for my trouble and another time telling me there was nothing they could do about it as that is how it was transcribed when it came to them, so it's been a mixed bag of reaction from them  :-\

I find it easier to just add a comment - there's a box on the right hand side - which will be seen by anyone accessing the record. You could put something like 'Surname is HUNT not KENT - transcription error'.

Hi

Thanks Josey I have done just that.  LIke you Ellenmai I have had mixed responses from Ancestry the most annoying being a 2 month wait for a response to a problem I had  ::) by the time it came the problem had been solved and I'd moved on  :)

At least in this case I won't end up following what is clearly a wrong line  ??? And hopefully neither will others.

Many thanks  :D
