Jacob Pow transported to Tasmania in 1824
« on: Thursday 08 June 17 15:44 BST (UK) »
I have been searching for Jacob Pow baptised 26 Jan 1803 at St Swithen Walcot Bath Somerset and have not bound any other information about him in the UK. He was the first son of Joseph Pow and Martha Ayliffe who married 15 Feb 1802 in Walcot Bath.

I have now found a Jacob Pow; convict transported on the ship `Chapmanī departure 6 June 1824, arrival in Tasmania 27 July 1824.

Also a Marriage in Hobart 1 Feb 1836 between Jacob Pow and Anne Smith also his death 25 May 1853 in New Norfolk Tasmania.

Can anyone help in finding further information which may or may not connect my Jacob from Bath and the Jacob in Tasmania?

Hi,

There is a newspaper article in Bath Chronicle and Weekly Gazette 22 May 1823 that records a Jacob Pow who was at a Petty Sessions at Bath Forum Magistrates for burglary and committed for trial.

Perhaps this is your man.

Wow :D thanks for that additional info; I found an earlier felony from 1818; Jacob stole silk handkerchiefs from a shop in Bond street.

Hi,

Jacob's father was a carpenter in Bath.

Family
F in Bath a Carpenter

On Jacob's marriage permission record its states : Ann Smith convict who arrived on the Hydery.
Got a problem tho cause there were 3 Ann Smith's on that ship.

There is also a record of inquest online for Jacob concerning his death.

Jacobs records are online in the Tasmanian state archives site.

Some mentions of Jacob POW on trove - ticket of leave in 1834, not finishing some work in 1836 and witnesses at a murder trial in 1837.

His death cert says he was a carpenter.

The 11 Dec marriage permission shows her convict number - 223 - so this is her here
