I have finally found my gg grandfather. He was a convict to Tasmania. Can someone tell me where i can look up what his crime was in England - thanks.

Do you have access to the British newspapers? Sometimes one can be lucky and find a article on them.

John Dykes - transported to Tasmania on the Norfolk - 1834. Convicted at Devon , Plymouth.

Thank you so much , i really appreciate your help. I could only find larceny before convicted of felony, so i was a bit confused.

Woolmer's Exeter and Plymouth Gazette, etc
Saturday, April 19, 1834

John Dykes and Henry Rowe, two lads, were found quilty of stealing rope. Dykes had been convicted of theft on a former occasion, and Rowe, though quiet a boy, was tried in conjuntion with another lad, and acquited, at a previous session; in this instance the judgement was  -- Transportation for 7 years.
