What became of Joseph Carter and his family
« on: Saturday 10 June 17 13:43 BST (UK) »
Joseph Carter was baptised 19 Feb 1764 St Bartholomew Burwash son of Robert Carter & Frances Newington.

Joseph & Philadelphia Westover [daughter of Thomas Westover & Katherine Ashby] baptised 08 Oct 1785 St Bartholomew Burwash, married 9 Aug 1805 St Bartholomew Burwash.

To date I have located 2 children of the couple:
Mary baptised 30 Nov 1817 St Bartholomew Burwash, &
Richard baptised 12 Mar 1820 Calvinistic Independent Chapel Burwash.

Joseph was a Cordwainer.

Hoping for some assistance please.

Hello Westy

It would seem more likely that it was Joseph Carter (bap 26 April 1782 at Burwash) son of Richard Carter and Hannah Brook who married Philadelphia Westover in 1805.

Best wishes

Hi Westy, just wondered whether you were a member of the Sussex Family History Group as then you would have access to Sussex parish registers on their website for your research as you indicate that most of it relates to East Sussex.

Hello Caroline,

What you says makes great sense.  Thanks for pointing out the possibility.

Pheno: yes i have a SFHG Membership but some of the records are incomplete.

Lizzie: great find and the family must be nonconformist perhaps with so much information provided.

Possible burial for Joseph. 4 April  1841 at Hanover Chapel General burying ground, Brighton, age 58, abode 43, Grosvenor street. grave 9, 26 west and in "south" column there is an "M" - don't know what that means. A number of different letters in this column.
