Penrhys Cemetary
« on: Saturday 10 June 17 14:36 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the burial plot of Emrys Davies (died1950) and his wife Violet Alice Davies (died 1958). I have traced their burial to Penryhs Cemetary but have no plot information. They are my grandparents and my mother who passed away recently would like her ashes placed on her parents grave. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you. We used this already to identify where they were buried but it is now the physical location of the plot we need as we have not been able to find the gravestone. A map of the plots would help if anyone has such a thing.

The plot map at the Cemetary does not show any numbering system. We have a plot number of 4391 but this does not relate to the picture of different denominations.

They are in Plot: B1148 which is in the B section.

4391 is the burial number - it's not the plot. The burial number is the number on the official burial record document that gives personal and other details of family, age, occupation, grave depth and ownership etc. If you don't have it you can get this by email from Treorchy library. There would be a separate record for each person buried, evem if they are buried in the same grave.

I don't  think there is anyone on site anymore at what used to eb the sexton's house. I  think you are best contacting the current cemetery office that manages the Rhondda cemeteries from:
Cemetery Offices,
Brithweunydd Road,
TREALAW,
CF40 2UQ,
Wales
Telephone: +44 (0)1443 682829

If you haven't found a headstone, then the grave is likely to be unmarked. It's a matter then of looking at the from and rear of the columns of graves (going up and down the hill rather than across the rows) and basically counting and looking for actual numbers that appear on some graves. Maybe   the council gravediggers are another option, but you'd need to be there when they are working.

Thank you all so much and especially to David Wilson-Pinkney who beyond the call of duty just stood in the driving rain and pointed out our grandparents grave. We will be coming back later in the year to complete our mission for Mum. Thanks you all so much again for your help. Amanda & Carol.
