Marriage at St Ann's, Nottingham 1884
« on: Saturday 10 June 17 19:12 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have access to the St Ann's marriage register for 1884, please?

I have Elizabeth West (b abt 1862, Nottingham)  marrying Harry Waltham on 4 Aug 1884 (from a transcription on FindMyPast), but it doesn't include Elizabeth's father's name, so I'm struggling to find her on the 1871 and 1881 census.

The only one I can find is the daughter of Christopher West, but that's a Roman Catholic record, so am a bit dubious about it.

Can anyone help, please?

Thanks

I'll be hopefully going to Nottingham archives in the next week or two and can look this up in the PR.

Have found a William in 1881, occupation "framesmith" - which is a new one on me.  Could that be a different word for mechanic, perhaps?

STG

Edited to say : Found him in 1871 as a mechanic, b. abt 1835/6 in Whitwick, Leics.  So today I have learned that framesmith = mechanic.  Happy days  ;)

Perhaps a framesmith mechanic then??

A framesmith or framework knitter made stockings on a special machine designed for that purpose. The framesmith was one of the key workers in the hosiery industry - he could set up the machinery as required, and knew how to repair it when necessary.

It appears that Sarah West is Elizabeth's elder sister, who marries George Denton in 1886. Neat!
