For information,

David Baldock was baptised at Mersham,
1820 Jan 30 David son of Deborah Baldock – baseborn

William Wood Baldock was baptised at Westwell,
1826 Jun 10 William Wood son of Deborah Baldock – otp – Single Woman

Deborah Baldock was baptised at Eastwell,
1797 Dec 3 Deborah daughter of William and Sarah Baldock – Privately, Publically admitted to Church 24 December.

Deborah was buried at Westwell,
1837 Oct 23 Deborah Baldock - from the West Ashford Union Workhouse, otp and said to be 38.

There may have been a (bastardy) hearing in relation to David Baldock’s father but, it is even less likely that it still exists.

One difficulty in researching David Baldock’s Family is that his wife in Census returns is shown as Ann!  However, when he married at Folkestone on 3 November 1847 his wife was Rebecca Hancock.  Her father was stated to be Stephen and David’s father was said to be David Baldock a Salesman!  The death of David’s widow was registered in 1896 (at Elham District) as Ann Rebecca Baldock.  Her age was noted to be 73.

You may well have all of this but, I thought it may prove useful in clarifying the family.

Tony

Thank you for this very kind of you. Sorry for late reply not been on here for few months only popped on once recently and missed this post reply. Just been getting back into my research working on 3 branches that I last left with brickwall having researched as much as I could free online. Having said that surprised from when I started just how much I have found starting from only small amount of info about two years ago.

I'm having some trouble further down line sat the moment accounting for what happened to one his daughters Fanny Baldock B1859 in Folkestone, who I believe unmarried she had Alfred in 1875 who later died age 13 in 1888. Not confirmed there could be more children at time of death she remained Baldock but not confirmed. Trying to find out if she did have anymore children she moved around most of her life between service and living with her widowed mother and other family members from census.

There is another (linked possibly) illegitimate birth, at Folkestone, in 1881 of an Albert Edward Baldock who can be found as a nephew in 1891.  He is living with a Charles and Eleanor Pryor.

Cannot find any others in the Elham District but if Mum moved about there may well be more!

No details are given for Ann's parents in the parish records.

There was an Agnes BALDOCK buried in 1573.

There is a will for a Robert BALDOCK PRC/17/42/260a dated 1574 which might be worth investigating.

These could be her parents  ???

BALDOCK does not seem to have been a common name in Mersham at that time.

I'm looking for a marriage of Anthony Baldock in the Charing area of Kent at sometime between 1639 and 1656.

It looks like my ancestor Thomas Baldock was christened in Charing in 1651 and was the son of Anthony. The only marriage so far found for Anthony is one by Licence at Little Chart.

26 Feb 1639 Anthony Baldocke (36, a Husbandman) and Martha Peck (37) both said to be of the Parish.

It seems a bit unlikely that Anthony was married in 1639 and didn't have any children [by Martha at least] until 1651. I've not been able to find any other children christened in Charing or nearby but there may be some.

So the question is did Anthony have other children between 1639 and 1651 or was there a different marriage?

Can anyone help?

Matt
