Ecclesall Bierlow warhero P/O Herbert Henry Rodgers
« on: Sunday 11 June 17 11:20 BST (UK) »
I am tracking down the relatives of Mid uppergunner P/O Herbert Henry Rodgers who was born in Ecclesall Bierlow as the son of Herbert Rodgers and Jennie Marie Bown or Brown. They emigrated to Canada(Vancouver British Columbia) where Herbert Henry Rodgers was married. P/O Herbert Rodgers took part in a crew of a 432 Sqdn RCAF Halifax bomber which was shotdown after a raid on Bourg Leopold in Belgium on the 28th May 1944.  The pilot was found under the wreckage, four crewmembers baled out, escaped but later arrested. Three crewmembers are since then still missing and commemorated on the Runnymede memorial at Kew near London in the UK. On the 28th May 2017 we erected a memorial in remembrance of this crew near the crashsite with the attendance of families of the crew. Sadly I still not found the relatives of Herbert Rodgers. I do hope that some one can help me with this matter. Oh yes the army service number for Herbert Rodgers is R/57959 later changed in J/89733.

Many Thanks,
Adrian van Zantvoort
Bomber Command research during WW2 in the South Eastern part of The Netherlands. Especially aircraft crash research and locating their crews.

Just to say that the Runnymede Memorial is at Englefield Green (Egham) Surrey which is just over 10 miles from Kew

Presumably his birth:

Births September quarter 1920
Herbert H Rodgers  mmn Brown  Ecclesall B.    9c   718

Who did he marry, and were there any children?

Have you found Jennie Marie's birth, and decided to buy the marriage certificate to tell whether her birth name is Bown or Brown?

The family appear to arrived in 1922 when Jennie was 27 and Herbert was 30 - do you know who George was?
