Jonathan CUTTS 1676-1728
« on: Monday 12 June 17 11:39 BST (UK) »
Jonathan CUTTS who was buried in Cam in 1728 was my 6 x great grandfather.  According to Phillimore's Marriages there is a marriage of a Jonathan CUTTS and Mary JONES in the Northwick Chapel of the Parish of Henbury 13 April 1702. They were both said to be "of Aust"
In Sept 1708 a Jonathan CUTTS of Aust married a Mary DERRETT of Cam in St Mary de Crypt Gloucester.  There is a burial of a Mary CUTTS in Cam in July 1710 and a Jonathan CUTTS marries Hannah ROSE Dec 23rd 1713 also at St Mary de Crypt in Gloucester.  There is an Inventory of his effects when he died in 1728, Hannah CUTTS widow applies for probate and there is an M I recorded in Bigland for him.
Is this the same Jonathan CUTTS for all three marriages?  Any suggestions where I might find out anything about his parents?   Thank You.

Forest of Dean records

?  is this Mary's first marriage

James DERRETT aged 30 Widower of Thornbury
married Mary MYNETT aged 22 of Camm

by Licence 27 June 1693

There is a Will on Ancestry - dated 6 May -  1708 of John MINET of Cam, talks about his daughter Mary DERRET and her children John & James DERRET.

Mary DERRETT married Jonathan CUTTS - 30 September 1708

Baptism at Thornbury : 16 July 1701, DERRETT, son of James

Thank you both so much - this is becoming clearer bit by bit!  Still not sure about the marriage to Mary JONES - no mention of him being a widower when he married Mary DERRETT (widow).  Will follow up the other suggestions.  Thank you.

The only early marriage at Cam (looking at Wishful Thinking etc) was William CUTTS marrying Elizabeth ATTWOOD - 19 September 1636

There is a tree on Ancestry, stating William CUTTS died in Haresfield in 1681 and his Will is on Ancestry - briefly had a look and mentions various CUTTS, Thomas, John, Hannah, Elizabeth & James etc.

Looking at the Inventory for Jonathan CUTTS, he appears to be a Yeoman with quite a lot of property.

?  If anyone has access to the Gloucestershire Hearth Tax (1662-1689) some Counties are on line - may be this would give you some idea where the CUTTS where living - and who farmed etc in Cam.

Farmers son's quite frequently married a farmer's daughter.....  just to keep the land in the family.
