children of John Adams
« on: Monday 12 June 17 17:44 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

my probable 5th great-grandfather was John Adams. In 1804, he married Jane Bell in St Anne Soho, London.
At this point, I could only discover 3 children of the couple with certainty:

William Henry b1805 St Luke Finsbury
James b1817 St Martin in the Fields
George b1824 St Martin in the Fields

My 4th great-grandfather, also John Adams, was born around 1808 St Lukes Finsbury.
I don't have proof (yet) that he was the son of the abovementioned John and Jane, but I know his father was John Adams, St Luke Finsbury also fits the bill, they both were picture dealers and restorers, and the younger John also lived around St Martin in the Fields in later life.

Could anyone help me find:

- some indication that my theory is right (or wrong!), like a baptism
- other children of John and Jane (there is quite a gap between 1805/8 and 1817)

thanks in advance!
Tom

He married Sarah Catherine Drew in 1830. After her death in 1862, he remarried Sarah Harrisson.

Hi Tom,

There is James, baptised 9 Mar 1817 at St Ann Soho to John & Jane, picture dealer, of St Martin's.

Why are you so sure William is a sibling? I can't see an occupation or address that confirms this?

Hey Jo :)

you are right, I checked my notes and William is not a 100% certainty.
However:

- his parents are also John and Jane
- John and Jane were married in 1804, William was born in 1805
- both William and John Jr were born in St Lukes
- William was auctioneer at Jones' Auction Rooms in Leicester Street, John Jr was auctioneer with his own rooms at Great Newport Street

My natural instinct tells me that John and Jane got married, lived in St Lukes, had a couple of children there, and around 1810-1815 they moved to Duke's Court in Westminster, where he had a shop until at least 1826, probably later.
