Death certificate
« on: Monday 12 June 17 19:29 BST (UK) »
How would I find the death certificate for a ancestor that died in WW1, I have searched the GRO index and can't seem to find it.  Where else can I look?
Thank you :)

If he was killed in action, unfortunately that is all the certificate will tell you.

Is there anyway you could view it online rather than ordering the actual certificate?

Have you looked for his army records as it may tell you if he was wounded.

Unfortunately there is no way to view a death certificate online.

FindMyPast has  "British National Armed Forces Deaths 1796-2005" which will only show reference details needed for ordering a copy.

you might get a bit more information, such as his regiment and date and place of death  from his entry on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site

I've been trying to find his age at death but can't seem to find this on any of his records.

Can you tell us his name?
Then maybe somebody can help to find him ;D

Do you know where and when he was born?
Was he married?
Where was he living?
