Catherine Long Convict 1822

I have a Convict Ancestor Catherine Long who was tried at the Spring Assizes 1822 in Cork City. She was transported to NSW on the "Woodman' in 1823 for 7 yrs. The Convict Indent and her Cert of Freedom (3 Apr 1829) give her native place as Woolwich. Her calling was Servant.  Her death certificate states she was born in Ireland and her father was John Long, farmer. Some researchers say she was baptised at Kingston on Thames in 1807 with parents John Long and Ann Durham. Kingston on Thames is 20 miles from Woolwich, Kent.
I can see no evidence that the Catherine Long baptised at Kingston on THames is my convict.
I was wondering if there was/is a Woolwich in Ireland.
Can anyone help Please?

on the peter mayberry site it says she was from Woolwich that is in England
born in 1805 age 18

she was convicted of Larceny from a shop.

Thank you for your reply. I have researched her extensively in NSW and in Convict records. It is interesting that if she was a native of Woolwich, England that she would be tried in Cork. I guess her employment as a Servant was the reason for being in Ireland.

I think there could have been a court house in London Called the Cork City?

if you go through google and type in the search box. Cork City court London or City of cork london photo of court come up.

At that time Ireland came under England.

it says on NSW site she was the wife of a James Grimes no. 29/0287 says this on her certificate of freedom.

Thank you. Catherine definitely sailed from Cork in Ireland so would have been tried in Ireland. I have lots of information on her life in Aust and her marriage to James Grime/s. I appreciate you looking for the information you posted

It is entirely possible that she was born in Ireland (of unknown location) and that she is a native of Woolwich, Kent (this means she resided there for a period of time, NOT that she was born there).

Have you checked early Woolwich records? If she was a native of Woolwich then she may appear there or her father John Long , Farmer of Woolwich, Kent  in newspapers? Have a look for siblings living in Woolwich but born in Ireland?

Her whole Family may have returned to Cork with her pre 1823 by the way including her father/mother/siblings.

Looking at the IGI, there were Long's born in Ireland between 1800 and 1830 living in Chatham, Kent. You will notice that Chatham, Kent and Woolwich are both able to be reached by sailing ships. I can see an Ellen Long born 1801 in Bandon, Cork. (Maybe a clue, maybe not)
