I can't see anything here http://web.tameside.gov.uk/BACAS/. But I can't see a death in 1965 either

Is Dewitte her maiden name or a middle name, where & when did they marry

I can't see a marriage either to get some idea re his birth year.

What information do you have please?

thanks for reply, Dewitte is maiden name they married Christ church Denton Sept 28th 1940 William 35 widower Mary Dewitte 23 spinster William was living 93 Ashton road Hyde  Mary living 40 Heaton st denton this is what it says on their marriage cert I have, not got birth cert.

The indexes have Mary as Mary De W Cragg - explains why I couldn't see the marriage.

Sorry don't think that's your man. There is a likely will for that one - lives in Cheadle and widow is not Mary.
