She married in 1972 to Thomas Lee but that is all I can find on her and she is not in the 1939 register.

Vera's name could be officially closed on the 1939. Free search shows -

There is an Edith Owens b. 1897, living in Liverpool with Thomas Owens (b.1921) and one more person. There are 3 more people in this household that are officially closed.

There is an online tree that has Edith Howes born 10 Oct 1896  ???, mother Mary Ann Howes.

Mary Ann Howes 'married' (can't see a record for this) John Lyall (d.1903).
She then married Francis Robinson -

Mary Ann Lydall [Mary Ann Howes] wid 25
22 Nov 1903, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Father - Henry Howes
Spouse - Francis Robinson

Perhaps Edith used her mother's married name of Robinson when registering the birth of Vera Owens (1930) rather than Howes.

1901 for Edith -

Henry Howes   57
Annie E Howes   47
Henry Howes   son 16
Josephine Howes dau 12
Edith Howes granddaughter 4

Have you found Edith on the 1911?

All the above does seem a bit confusing with so many different names, however it's worth considering.

Thanks for all the replies.  I am having to rely on surviving members of the family for info and some  live in Australia.  I may have to obtain a marriage certificate to see what it says.  I am assured, again by family, that Vera was the youngest daughter of John and Edith (Howes) and that she married late in life.  I will follow up the birth date in 1930. Edith Elizabeth's parents were William and Harriett (I think!)

on the otherhand a probate record (with administration to Edith Owens - widow) says he died 20th June 1933 so maybe that tree not to be totally relied on

I am not 100% sure - but 126 Smithdown Road maybe  Sefton General Hospital - and 84 Mill Lane ,Old Swan may also be a Hospital - now known as Rathbone Hospital
