Hi cando,

My private tree on ancestry is incomplete and riddled with mistakes (due to misinformation). It's likely that my tree has Alfred Charles Houghton and Agnes Isabella Nugent as husband and wife (I don't have access to ancestry at present to confirm). However, they were never married. I understand that they are the biological parents of my grandfather, Kevin Roland Nugent. Agnes Isabella Nugent went on to marry Leonard Henry Earle. Leonard raised my grandfather as his stepson but he did not adopt him thus my grandfather kept the surname of his mother - Nugent. I think it's a bit of a sore point in our family history so the older generations do not discuss the details with me. That is why the research is so important to me.

Any information going back further than Adolphus Houghton would be appreciated (I guess it would be hard to go back further than Henry & Ann Houghton?). With a name like Adolphus, perhaps he has descended from German bloodlines?

Thanks again for your time and effort,

Warm regards,

Kris

Hi Kris

As your tree is private no-one but you or invited persons can view the tree.  There are a number of public trees.

WW2 Service Summary showing his dob 30 Apr 1923
http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/Veteran.aspx?serviceId=N&veteranId=1151011

1923/B31667
HOUGHTON Alfred Charles
KELLY Edith May
13 Jan 1923

Adolphus was quite a popular name in England and I wouldn't make any assumptions about a person's ancestry based on a name :)

1851 Census living at Pump Yard, Faversham Kent.
HOUGHTON Henry Head 56 years  Labourer  Born Faversham, Kent
HOUGHTON Ann Wife 58 years    Born Richmond, Surrey
EASON Alice Grandchild  1 years   Born Faversham, Kent

This looks like the above Henry's baptism - year is a match

HOUGHTON Henry
Baptism 11 Oct 1795  Davington, Kent,England
Father Henry    Mother Mary

If you need actual dates of any or all of those events Whiteout found in reply #1, you can now 'drill down' on the Qld BDM site until you get the actual date.

whiteout has given you the website.
Also, in Qld, C in front of a number means country and in 1900 this could be as close as Ipswich or even a location that is now a suburb of Brisbane.  B obviously means Brisbane, but a much smaller area than present day Brisbane.
