Odd occupation
« on: Thursday 15 June 17 06:10 BST (UK) »
I have come across an Ann Maria Bellati b1831 in the 1851 Census resident in Saffron Hill who lists her occupation as Blond worker. Any ideas? I have looked at the original and it does appear that the transcription is correct.
Her husband, Santino b1823 is a Cage maker (for birds is noted on the 1861 Census) but Ann's occupation is not listed then.
I am stumped.

On this thread there is mention of a Blond runner having something to do with lace making.

Thank you for your replies. I did look it up on the 'old occupation names' site but didn't find anything there. The connection to lace making would make sense for that area of London. I may have found her in a later census - occupation needlewoman. Will look into that one tomorrow.
Another one for my odds and ends file.
