Thomas PLUNKETT
« on: Thursday 15 June 17 08:58 BST (UK) »
Hi, and Thanks in advance for any help on this question.

I am trying to confirm details about Thomas Plunkett born 1852 Castreagh NSW, died 1932, he married Hannah Cross 1875 (her birth name was Johannah Cross 1854).

My main question is about the parents of Thomas Plunkett. Was his Mother Catherine Plunkett born around 1804 in Ireland maybe transported ?
I have come across so many Plunketts it's confusing.

Thanks

You've probably seen this obituary?

NSW BDM marriage
3826/1875   PLUNKETT Thomas   m.  CROSS Hannah   @ Penrith

This marriage record would ask for details about the origins of bride and groom, including names of parents.

You need to see the marriage record.

There is a Catherine PLUNKETT with a child Thomas, but they were at Singleton in 1866, so not yours according to the obituary where it states Thomas was born and lived around Castlereagh.

Whether this is the Catherine who was possibly transported, I don't know.

If you do not have a record of his birth, and you do not have parental details from any source, where did you get the information his mother's name was Catherine?

Hi Sue the name Catherine was brought up by another person who is also seeking the same answers,  however I'm a bit unsure about it, because they cannot confirm where it came from, hence I'm a bit "aha" I'm thinking of a day at the library for early church records to confirm the birth

Yes, Maddy52, I have copies of the marriage / death cert. no parents named. The article about Catherine, could be where they have obtained the Catherine name from and not checked the dates properly. It is a real mystery. Thanks for your help

Hi nyteowl,
Here is a thread about what to do about blanks on NSW historic marriage certificates by MAJM.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=546609.msg4001771#msg4001771

Essentially it says that not all information was passed on from the clergy to the BDM registry and that you should contact the church archives for the missing info (such as parents' names).

This is the contact for the Uniting Church archives (which includes Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational churches).  http://www.utc.edu.au/campus/synod-archives/
