Please help find second wife of Ebenezer Jenner (1844 - 1902)
« on: Thursday 15 June 17 21:36 BST (UK) »
Ebenezer Jenner (1844 - 1902) was widowed abt July 1888 in West Ham. By 1891, he had a second wife, Helen I (or J) Jenner, who died in 1894 aged 38. I am trying to find out who she was.

I have seen suggestions that she was Helen Isabella Clever or Templing. I found a possible marriage abt Oct 1888 to a Helen Isabella Cleaver or Cleaves, but no birth for that name, so perhaps Helen was born Templing, married Mr Cleaver, was widowed and then married Ebenezer. An Ellen Isabella Templing was born abt Oct 1855 in Stepney, so I am looking for a Templing/Cleaver marriage between 1874 and 1887.

Thank you for all the information cuffie 81 :)

No, I haven't had any luck finding Ellen/Helen's previous marriage. I couldn't find any children named Cleaver (with mmn Templing) either.

Just a thought but could Ellen/Helen have been married twice before? There's no indication of this on the marriage to Ebenezer but it might explain why we can't find a marriage between Templing/Cleaver.

I had a look for marriages of siblings, hoping that Ellen/Helen may have been a witness but I've only found (edit) 2 so far and Ellen/Helen wasn't a witness at either.

Marriage of sister:
1879 Q2 Marriage - Elizabeth Frances Templing & John Henry Arliss; Polar; 1c; 1044
Witnesses: Frank Arliss, Mary Ann Brown

Marriage of brother:
1878 Q2 Marriage - Alfred Templing & Sophia Rollinson; Mile End; 1c; 887
Witnesses: : W H Hole, Eliza Lewis?

I suppose she might have been married twice before, although I can't find any record of a Helen/Ellen Isabella Templing marrying anyone at all...

Thank you for all your help anyway :)

Thank you Jomot :)

How strange! She would have been about 30 then and far from home; the rest of her family all seem to be centred around Stepney. Perhaps the elusive Mr Cleaver came from Oxford...
