Help with occupation, please
« on: Friday 16 June 17 17:06 BST (UK) »
I am attaching an excerpt from a wedding record.
I would like to know what you think the occuption of the bride's father, Joseph Stevenson, is.

I had previously only seen a transcription of this, but I've now got the original record, and and I am not so certain anymore. Another researcher here has also expressed doubts.

I'm not being coy, but I'm not saying what the original transcription was, as I notice that it has influenced my own interpretation, so I would like to wait and see other opinions first.

Thanks,
Bob

Another vote for Tailor.

I don't think I've seen someone described as a Sailor - they were either Seamen or Mariners.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Doesn't look look like the 'S' in 'Spinster' i.e. I would say 'Tailor'

I agree Annie - but thought the 's' in Stevenson was similar to that in the occupation

Actually....

It doesn't look like the 'T' in 'Thomas' either  :-\

Annie

Edit to add I still think Tailor

Hi all,

thanks for your views.

Unfortunately, that was also the original transcription, and the problem is, that he may have been a "Sinker" (well sinker), and that would tie in (wonderfully well !!) with other BMD info on possible family members :(
