Decendants of Thomas and Francis Mackenzie
« on: Saturday 17 June 17 07:44 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm new to RootsChat  and I am looking for information relating to Thomas Mackenzie and Francis Nicholson who were married in Loch Assynt, Scotland and emigrated to Australia on the 'James Moran' in 1839.  I am a descendant of Thomas and Francis. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Merijane and welcome to rootschat!

You've posted in the "completed" look up requests, so I'll ask a moderator to move your post onto the general Australian board.

What information in particular are you looking for? Do you know when they died, any children etc? Did they arrive in NSW? I'm assuming since you say you're a descendant, you must have some info already.  ;)

Lots of friendly people here waiting to help!

Many public trees on Ancestry.  I gave up counting after the first page of trees.

One of those deaths was a child of Thomas and Frances, aged 10 months.

I assume it was this one:

Sorry for the delay in getting back with further information - I have been out of town for a few days.

This is what I know so far:  Thomas Mackenzie married Frances Nicholson (aka Fanny) 20 October 1829 in Loch Assynt, Scotland.  They came to Australia from Lochinvar on the 'James Moran' arriving 1893.  Their first four children were born in Scotland - Margaret 21/12/1830 - 24/08/1900, Charles Phillip 16/08/1833-1881, James 1/07/1835 and Malcolm 1838 died at sea.  In Australia the following children were born - Donald (1840 - Campbelltown)Thomas 1842 (Parramatta), Sarah 1843 (birthplace unknown), Mary 1844 (birthplace unknown), Frances 15/12/1846 (North Rocks) and Grace 3/01/1850-1/01/1892 (North Rocks).

My family line is through Grace and I have been able to find some information about this side of the family.    I know that Grace married Edward McCoy in 1875 and had five children (Charles, Alice, Minnie, Herbert and Frances - but I have no birth dates).  Grace married again in 1891 to Andrew Mangan and had a daughter Grace in 1892 (sorry, gets confusing with all the same Christian names). Grace jnr was raised by her Aunt, Frances Mackenzie (who was married to James Cardno Weir) following the death of her mother during childbirth.

I have been able to find out some information about Frances and James Weir's family but as for all the other children of Thomas and Frances Mackenzie i.e. Margaret, Charles, James, Donald, Thomas, Sarah and Mary, I have drawn a blank.

Hope this additional information helps and thank you to Annie, Debra, Cando and Maddys52 your assistance and for the information already posted - it's all greatly appreciated.

Meri.
