Folks,
William Speechley b 1848 Farcet,Huntingdonshire,England son of Joseph and Matilda is living with his parents for 1861 census but no trace of him in England after that date.
I have found a New York shipping list entry which may well be him.

William has a half brother and a son named Stamford.
William dies in 1896 in Philadelphia.Obituary names Edith Elma as his widow.
There is another William Speechley b 1847 in Huntingdonshire who i don't have in my tree nor have i traced him.
I have next to zero experience researching in USA and am hoping someone can assist with records to confirm this is my man.

Evaline Speechley died in 1880, and the first child of William and Edith was born in 1884, so Edith and Evaline were probably married to the same man.  I can't find a marriage record for William and Edith, but the 1900 census indicates she was from New Jersey, so maybe they were married there.

The marker is difficult to read, but Find a Grave shows the birth date of William Speechley as December something - possibly Dec. 8, and the birth year is possibly 1851, although his death record suggests a birth year of 1849 based on his age (46).

He may have lowered his age when he emigrated, but does the December birthdate fit?

In general, death records of that time period wouldn't show the parents' names for an adult.  Some marriage records do, but I don't see any for him.  So the December birthdate may be the best lead.

I don't have an exact date of birth but registration of his birth was in last quarter of 1847 and he was baptised 30 Jan 1848.
I will take this man as mine!
