The Rev.Bertram Joseph Ellis
« on: Sunday 18 June 17 22:29 BST (UK) »
Tending Roman Catholic needs, he is to be seen in Kelly Gloucestershire 1939 living at The Presbytery, Chipping Sodbury. Can anyone recommend a line of enquiry which might reveal some details of this gentleman particularly when he entered the Ministry and the place of his birth? I think he is likely to be the Bertram to be found in Swindon in the 1901 census aged 11, but ,so far, I have found nothing more of him.
I would be very pleased for some help. Many thanks, Toby.

What is his date of birth from the 1939 census?

This would fit with 1901 census

Births June quarter 1889
Bertram Joseph Ellis      Derby  7b   563

Mother's maiden name Cartwright from GRO)

Thank you both. This is indeed the Bertram who was born in Derbyshire but I am very nervous about jumping to conclusions as I have already found a Bertram Ellis of the same age sailing to Australia in 1910. Referring to Rootschat, Australia the discussions which led to my dropping Australia can be seen. Much still depends on finding my Derbyshire born Bertram in 1911. T

Sorry. I didn't answer 1 question. The Rev. Ellis was born 9 May 1889 which agrees with Q2. T

I am impressed Capetown. That seems to pretty well sew it up. The extra information on his parents is also very useful. Thanks. T.

Ancestry has the Railway Records and I think???

that

Joseph ELLIS was taken on as an Apprentice at Swindon 3 December 1877 at the Loco Works as an Apprentice Coachbuilder and finished his Apprenticeship - 5 December 1883 and then moved to Derby.  GWR - God's Wonderful Railway.....

---

Joseph aged 18 and an Apprentice Railway Carriage ..

can be found on the 1881 census in Swindon, with his father Sidney and family and appears to be there in 1871
