Lucy Bingham ***Completed thank you***
« on: Monday 19 June 17 18:26 BST (UK) »
Lucy Bingham, nee Marsh, married my 4th cousin 3 times removed, Robert Stewart on 17 December 1877 in Hamilton, Ontario. She was the daughter of James Marsh and Margery Atkinson, and the widow of Edward Bingham.

According to FamilySearch, she was listed in the 1861 census as Lucey Bingham, and in 1871 as Lucy Bingham, living in Bradford, Simcoe County, Ontario.

I looked for the originals on the Libraries Canada web, but the 1861 image is so faint that I cannot read it, and there does not seem to be an image of the 1871.

Is there anyone who has access to the originals, or to legible images of them, and would be willing to transcribe both records for me please?

Thank you in anticipation.

Yes, thank you very much indeed, that is exactly what I was looking for for 1871.

You are welcome :)

I see what you mean about the 1861 census on the LAC site.  It is extremely faint!!

Here is a transcription from the OGW Census Project.   This link covers pages 6-10.  Scroll down until you get to page 8, line 9.  That looks like your Edward, Lucy and several children.

Thank you again. That's them indeed. I wasn't aware that this transcription existed, so that will also be useful for future reference.

Perhaps you already have this information or perhaps it isn't about your Mr. Stewart, but could this be a photograph of your Mr. Stewart?

Other images: http://archives.bradford.library.on.ca/index.php/search?query=%22robert+stewart%22&repos=

The man in the photograph was Robert Stewart, arrived in Canada in 1854, settled in Bradford.  He lost his grocery and liquor store in 1892 due to a fire.

Apologies if I've "found" the incorrect Robert Stewart.  ;)

Thank you very much indeed, Lisa. I think it must be the same Robert Stewart - mine was certainly born in Kincardineshire, and there are hardly likely to two different ones born in the same place, of the same age and occupation in a small place like Bradford.
