My elusive great grandfather John Dash
« on: Tuesday 20 June 17 06:42 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on how John Dash b. 1822 Litlington, Cambridgeshire came to Australia perhaps in the 1840's.

Also his marriage to Mary Jane Elizabeth Eason around the Kyneton, Victoria, area, maybe in the 1850's.

Patricia, do you have his death details?

Did the family remain in Victoria?

There is a John DASH, carrier on the 1856 electoral roll living at Edgecombe, some 5k from Kyneton.

FamilySearch gives his parents as William DASH and Mary at his baptism 23 July 1822 at Litlington, Cambridge.

Sorry - no help in finding when he arrived.  I'm not seeing BMDs in Victoria for him, Mary or the children - may have missed them.. ::)

Hmm - a somewhat confusing online tree suggests that Mary Elizabeth Jane EASON was married to a John HOWARD - Sorry haven't time to follow that one through but there is this death which seems to match one of the children found by Jamjar.
Death, Victoria 1867, #1962
Mary Elizabeth HOWARD, aged 11
Father: John
Mother: Mary Elizabeth Jane
Place of birth: MALM

Did your chap use another name?

I saw somewhere when doing NET search, one of the boys with surname Dash Howard, so mother most likey remarried.

Or, papa changed his surname to Howard. 😉
