It certainly does Annie. It's just trying to get that confirmation, and that it's not just a coincidence. I'd be surprised if they weren't related.
On a side, I also have twins in my MacDonalds. My dad always romantically claimed we were Glencoe MacDonald's. I'd love to prove him right!

Thanks,
Alasdair

Another RCer with an interest in the name Sween MacDonald...

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=661628.0

May be worth trying coming back down his line for a possible connection?

Nothing ventured.... ;D

"Jane was born in Clachnaharry to a Ship Carpenter named James MacDonald, and his wife Ann MacKay. James MacDonald's father John MacDonald"

Have you found James' death?

If not, this looks like wife Ann MacKay?

MACDONALD ANN 55
1876
098/ 57
Inverness

MACKAY ANN 55
1876
098/ 57
Inverness

Her death would tell you if she was a widow or not which would give an idea of when James died which will give both his parents names with mother's maiden name if known by the informant?

I got very curious about that Flora Grey on the 1841 census and downloaded the Inverness baptismal entry.  It reads:
Grey Flora, parents Alexr. Grey and Isabella McDond. in fornication, father's occupation ship's master, place of birth Clachnaharry, date of birth 10th June 1836, date of baptism 12th Sept 1836, witnesses John McDonald and (looks like) another John McDonald?!?
It appears that Flora is the illegitimate daughter of Isobel, born 1813 to John McDonald and Jean Grigor and that the John McDonald on the 1841 census I posted is the father of James.  He is quite old.  Could it be a second marriage?

J11, You might be right?

Another thread...

I wonder if John was previously married to Isabella Corbat on the above thread (same Poster as the other link I found)?

This is worth a search..

https://sites.google.com/site/highlandmemorialinscriptions/home/inverness-shire

There's no 'scroll bar' for name searching i.e. you need to mouse over the text page, left click then scroll.

This is interesting. Well spotted! It could be that James's father John was actually born in 1767 to Sween MacDonald the boat builder, and Janet MacKay? John had a family, possibly with Isabella Corbet who is the mother of Sween MacDonald b. 1791, also a boat builder. He then had a second family with Jean Grigor/MacGregor. By the time of the 1841 Census John had been widowed for a second time. That's what we're speculating anyway?
Thanks for the help with this!
