Something strikes me as a bit unusual here.
The maiden surname of Margaret (presumably your Maggie McAFEE) on the birth QLD index is omitted, not once, but each of the three times .

What was her marital status on the marriage certificate to Sacheverel Henry ?

Was there some doubt or confusion over her current surname at marriage?

Births
1896 C4292 Dorothey Catherine WRIGHT
Parents, Sacheverel Henry & Margaret    --

1897   C4288 Victor Morden Sacheverel, WRIGHT
Parents, Sacheverel Henry & Margaret --

1899   C1003 Archibald Morden, WRIGHT

Wow, that is strange, it would be great to see a marriage certificate, it would also answer in some way where Margaret was in 1895 after arriving in Cooktown in 1889.

The death of Victor Morden Wright.

1898/C517
F: Sacheverel Henry Wright
M: Margaret McAfee.

Records show that in 1898 and 1899 Sacheverel was employed on the Railways at Normanton so Victor might be buried in that Town.

Having done some more detective work, I've discovered that Margaret's younger sister Mary Alice emigrated to Australia some years prior to Margaret's arrival. This suggests Margaret followed Mary Alice, but they settled in different locations.

The Australia birth index does list Margaret's maiden name  as does her son's death index entry so it suggests she was a spinster when she married.

Thanks Ros!
Fascinating how his career changed tack...from miner to Gardner, dairyman to engineer (two stopgaps in the middle potentially to pay the bills)

Hi,

The Qld State Archives has a S H Wright, 20, arriving in Queensland on the R.M.S Waroonga from Plymouth in June 1884.  The records are difficult to read because of the hand writing but it appears that S. H. Wright disembarked at Thursday Island but I might be wrong.

Hi Gerry
Thanks.
What's the index category where you found this information?
It might be him. I always assumed he came to Australia after his father's death (1886). But if this is Secheverel Henry it means he left the U.K. before.

Thanks found it. Awful handwriting! I think it's him!

His younger brothers and sisters joined a few years later...what surprised me was the date. I always assumed he emigrated after his father died, but he left before. The brothers obtained mining licenses but things didn't work out.
