Maud could be a nickname for Matilda, for other names or a name in itself. Unfortunately bethann who started this thread never responded further on it and it's difficult to help her without further details.

True - but in the early records such as the 1831 census the family were Hogston/Hogstin. The name was 'upgraded' to Austin.

It was the Limavady family that opened Austin's department store in Derry in the 1830's.
